England is expected to move to the next stage of the roadmap out of lockdown on July 19, Boris Johnson has announced.
The PM confirmed today that restrictions will ease further later this month as long as the four tests are still met.
If the country moves to step four of the roadmap as planned, visiting pubs and restaurants will become much simpler.
The move will depend on the success of the vaccine programme deployment, hospitalisation and death rates, and variants of concern.
Here’s what you can expect from pub and restaurant visits after the next stage of roadmap is reached.
Who can I visit the pub with from July 19?
The rule of six indoors is set to be scrapped – as is the rule of 30 outdoors.
Currently, hospitality venues can only allow groups of more than six people if they are from only two households.
But legal limits on social gatherings are set to be axed on July 19.
Can I order a drink at the bar?
Propping up the bar in the pub will be back on the agenda, with mandatory table service rules scrapped.
The rule that customers must be seated to eat and drink will also be pulled.
It will mean that ordering a drink straight from the bar – and drinking it on your feet on a dancefloor – can make a return.
Will I need to socially distance from others?
Nope – social distancing rules are also on the chopping block.
It’s expected that venues will no longer need to ensure a two metre distance (or one metre with risk mitigation in place) between their groups of customers.
Do I still need to check in to the pub?
Other legal requirements placed on hospitality businesses will be revoked, including having to scan into venues using QR codes.
Venues can still ask customers to check in if they want to, and customers are also welcome to scan in to venues, but it will no longer be mandatory.
What about face coverings?
Punters will also no longer have to wear a face mask when moving around hospitality venues.
Guidance will be published that will suggest where people might choose to wear face coverings, but it will become voluntary.
Can nightclubs finally reopen?
All remaining businesses – including nightclubs – can finally open their doors again at the next stage of the roadmap.
Capacity caps will also be lifted at last, including on mass events.
