Manchester City defender Oleksandr Zinchenko has sent a message to Ukrainian fans after they crashed out of Euro 2020 to England at the quarter-final stage.
Zinchenko played as a left wing-back and central midfielder during his nation’s international tournament campaign and grabbed a goal and assist as they reached the last eight.
Ukraine lost an entertaining opening game to Netherlands 3-2, before beating North Macedonia 2-1 and losing to Austria 1-0 to finish as one of the four best third-placed teams to progress to the last 16.
They then took on Sweden and the game went to extra-time, with a goal in the 120th minute setting up a quarter-final clash with Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions.
Ukraine came unstuck in Rome though as England beat them 4-0 thanks to goals from Harry Kane, Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson, but City man Zinchenko took to his social media to thank the fans for their support throughout the tournament.
His photo caption read: “I am sure that with such support and team spirit we can do everything! Thank you for your faith and for being with us during the ups and downs.
“Seeing your joy and emotions after victories in every corner of the country, Europe and the World, you understand why you are playing! Thank you, Ukraine!”
The City defender will now go on holiday but is expected to be part of the first-team squad next season when they defend their Premier League title, starting with a trip to north London against Tottenham on August 15th.
