Staff at a shop have left a heartfelt message for customers after it shut its doors for good.
The Original Factory Shop, in Grosvenor Road, Ripley, closed on Tuesday, June 29, to the dismay of customers and members of staff.
The people working there have left a note in the window of the now-shut shop saying the decision had been out of their control and they had “fought to stay”.
The company says the decision was taken to close the store after it failed to reach an agreement with the landlord on a new lease.
It comes after the Jack Fulton store in Oxford Street in the town also shut its doors. The former store has been emptied and has a for-let sign above the entrance, although it is not clear why it has closed.
In a note posted on the door of the now-closed Original Factory Shop, staff said they had tried their best to keep it open.
It said: “Dear customers, it is with regret that we have to inform you that today, June 28, will be our last day of trade.
“The decision is out of our control and we have fought to stay but unfortunately it has been confirmed that we are now closing.
“I’d like to take this chance to say thank you to all our loyal, lovely customers for supporting us over the years. Yours sincerely, Helen and the Ripley team.”
A spokesperson for The Original Factory Shop said it had not been an easy decision to leave the town.
“After trying to reach an agreement with our landlords we have decided not to renew the lease at our Ripley store and that means we have had to now close the doors to shoppers,” he said.
“We’re working closely with colleagues affected by this and will be offering them a comprehensive package of support including help to find alternative employment.
“Whilst we are sad to be leaving Ripley, we will be opening more new stores across the UK in the coming year.”
Frozen Value Ltd, which runs Jack Fulton, has been approached for comment.
