Why Liverpool star Thiago is not starting for Spain at Euro 2020
Liverpool fans, once again, descended into confusion as Spain geared up for their Euro 2020 quarter-final tie against Switzerland.
As the clock ticked just past 4pm, Spain’s line-up was revealed and, for the fifth time in this summer’s competition, there was no room for Thiago Alcantara in Luis Enqirue’s starting eleven.
For a player who has been one of the most successful of his generation, winning two Champions Leagues and plenty of domestic titles, why does he appear to be overlooked by the national side?
Well, Liverpool-tinted glass aside, it doesn’t seem that bewildering that Thiago only boasts 44 caps to his name when you consider the quality of midfielders Spain have been able to gloat about, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquests, David Silva and Cesc Fabregas….just to name a few.
But at the age of 30, Thiago, still at his peak, should arguably be spearheading Enrique’s side to European Championship glory this summer.
But why does Enriques continually overlook the Liverpool midfielder?
