After securing the arrival of Jadon Sancho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is preparing for a busy summer transfer window ahead of the Premier League season.
United have already brought in Tom Heaton in addition to Sancho, and have also accelerated their pursuit of Raphael Varane.
As well as welcoming new additions the club could also say farewell to a number of fringe players including the likes of Jesse Lingard and Phil Jones. The former has a number of suitors and it is unlikely he will stay at Old Trafford come the start of the new campaign.
EuroJournal has attempted to see what numbers are available and what squad numbers could change this season.
Currently the available numbers up to 40 are: 12, 16, 22, 24, 25, 32, 35, 36, 40.
Jadon Sancho has worn the number 7 shirt for Dortmund but it is worn by Edinson Cavani at United. If he did receive it, the switch could trigger a domino effect.
Cavani has worn the number nine for PSG in the past and wears number 21 for his country. He could opt for the latter and look to swap shirts with Daniel James.
Varane’ s potential addition could also see some squad numbers change.
The Frenchman is unlikely to get the number five shirt he wears for Real Madrid with that being Maguire’s number at United, but he could be handed the number four shirt which belongs to Phil Jones.
Jones has been linked with a departure this summer and his shirt number may become vacant for Varane to take.

Another option for the Frenchman may be Jesse Lingard’s number 14 if he were to leave Old Trafford permanently after his excellent loan spell at West Ham last season.
Andreas Pereira’s number 15 could become available for any future summer arrival if he leaves ahead of the new campaign.
One number which will remain the same is number eight after Juan Mata signed a contract extension with the club.
New arrival Tom Heaton also needs a squad number but it is yet to be announced. United youngsters Hannibal Mejbri (46), Anthony Elanga (56) and Shole Shoretire (74) may look to switch to lower numbers ahead of the new season too.
